Description

Plants have been used for millennia to dye cloth. It is a magical process that never ceases to amaze and delight. But it can be quite daunting because of the numerous factors involved. Here we show you a simple process to get started.

Join us for this fun yet informative workshop and begin your natural dyeing journey.

In this workshop you will learn about:

  • Preparing your cloth to receive natural dyes
  • Protein vs cellulose fibres
  • Different types of mineral mordants and modifiers
  • Fugitive and colourfast natural dyes
  • Using botanicals to create prints (limited availability in winter!) and effects (e.g. mottling)
  • Creating a dye bath (also in a jar)
  • Heating to extract the dye
  • Final process to fix the dye
  • Where to find information to continue your natural dyeing journey

An instruction leaflet will be provided so that you can repeat the process at home.

The cost includes all materials, as well as tea/coffee and biscuits.

Important note: Booking essential! Minimum 3 participants. Cancellations less than 3 days in advance are non-refundable.
