Description

Organised as part of Angus Creatives Festival of Makers 2024!

Explore and find meaning in random and mundane encounters and observations through this creative writing workshop.

Whether you have never written a poem before or have a zillion prize-winning works, this workshop is an opportunity to take some time out of your busy life to connect with yourself and your imagination. There’s a story to ever found thing and you can be the one who tells it.

Using a found object as a prompt, this informal class will introduce you to simple poetic forms and storytelling techniques so you can create a ‘wordscape’ – a text-based piece of thought-provoking art suitable for a greetings or post card to send to a friend or to frame and hang on your wall.

Suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience of creative writing.

In this workshop Jane will show you how to:

  • Create the right mindset for ideas to flow into words
  • Structure a word-scape as a poem or flash short story
  • Enhance your expressive skills and broaden your vocabulary
  • Use description, comparison, imagery, metaphor and allusion
  • Use rhyme, rhythm, beat and sound to best effect
  • Shape and present your words as a piece of art.

Bring your own found object  or pick one from Jane’s collection.

Pens, pencils, paper and postcards will be supplied.

The cost includes all materials, as well as tea/coffee and biscuits.

Important note: Booking essential! Minimum 3 participants. Cancellations less than 3 days in advance are non-refundable.

Children 7-15 years old can attend for £3.00, accompanied by a fee-paying adult.  (Please contact us to arrange payment/booking for children).
